Recent Releases:

Doug Theriault : Interface (t&j 018)

Guitarist/Improviser Doug Theriault has many different approaches to his instrument. But none is more compelling than his work with his Sensor guitar. All guitar sounds and other live samples created on this recording were manipulated live using only his guitar, which controls his live electronics. With a wave of his hands, or by touching a string he can control the entire sound processing and speaker placement of a live improvisation/composition.

Sensor Guitar controlling live electronics.

All pieces improvised/recorded live at studio LTR June 2003.

Office Products : Nude Media (t&j 017)

The music of the duo Office Products is best described as spontaneous, intelligent, comic and extremely difficult. Residing in Portland, Oregon, Doug Theriault and David Chandler (Solenoid/Dj Brokenwindow) have invented a hybrid of European free improvisation, musique concrete, turntablism, and synthesizer-based electronica that is performed live.

Office Products have released numorous recordings in the U.S., Europe and Japan and have performed/collaborated live with People Like Us (UK) and Mark Hosler (from Negativeland) among many others since 1996.

Nude Media is a culmination of various recording sessions over the past 2 years.

David Chandler: Electronic Percussion/Synthesizer
Doug Theriault: Sensor Guitar/LiSa

These recordings are a culmination of work recorded from 2000 thru mid 2004.

Ainu : Octoporn (t&j 016)

Combining elements of glitch, lo-fi, and the sci-fi with booming bass, Ainu's debut album Octoporn is an exploration of the vast possibilities of electrofunk. Like video ghost images on an arcade screen, the songs establish a haunting mood that lingers long in the eardrums.

Built up from structured improvisations and live recordings, the album showcases Ainu's live performance skills.Octoporn channels the experimental spirit of bands such as Mouse on Mars and Drexciya while remaining head-nodding and booty-shaking.Lovers of machine music and IDM alike will both find something to enjoy about this release.

Decapod Claw : Lost... / Cursed 7" (t&j 015)
Decapod Claw and Toast and Jam's first 7" recording. This is Metal, made entirely with electronics; no guitars, bass or drums. This is the first document of Decapod Claw's quest for "the new way." The sound that has terrorized concert goers is finally available in a hard format. It is like a hybrid of Decapod Claw's signature aquatic synth sounds, Doom and Death Metal. This is a reaction to the infiltration of electronic music by indie rockers and the convolution that has resulted.

DUAL : Destroy All Improv (t&j 014)
DUAL is Doug Theriault on guitar and Ed Chang on electronics. DUAL's music is about the tension, release, destruction, resurrection and intersection of sound-objects in space. And kung fu, lots of kung fu. Listen. And Learn. Enjoy the Magic.

Chris says: Imagine Merzbow, Photek, Aphex Twin & Van Halen in a blender then multiply that by 15 million!

Decapod Claw : necrocrab re-sequencing error (t&j 012)
Toast & Jam Recordings is proud to release the first full length album by Decapod Claw. Having previously released a split 12" on Outward Music Company in Portland, OR, we see Decapod Claw coming into his own. This full length album will appeal to those interested in IDM, electro, and those who love huge dark cinematic electronic music. No tinny laptop production here, Decapod Claw is proud to make his music from a history of collecting synthisizers and equipment.

Decapod Claw is the production of Jesse James from Portland, OR. Look for his upcoming synth-metal split 7" with Solenoid later this year on Toast & Jam.

High quality Archival CDR pressing with handmade sleeve and inserts.

E3 : Tr's dust storm (t&j 011) Cassette Tape (sold out)
First in the series of limited edition DJ mix cassettes, Ezra Ereckson, head of BSI Records in Portland, Oregon, brings us a mix of epic proportions. Ranging from the hard broken beats of BSI's own Muslimgauze, to traditional Middle Eastern melodies and ragas, to underground hip hop from the likes of Cannibal Ox. This mix blows everything out of the water. Comparable to DJ/rupture's Minesweeper Suite. In a limited edition of 33. Don't miss out!!!

Doug Theriault "unidentified" (t&j 010)
Experimental guitarist Doug Theriault takes guitar one step further into the unknown. Using his guitar as a platform for controlling his computer, Theriault has finally achieved success in his 'cut up' guitar marriage of abstraction. Using the software LiSa (Steim) since it first came out in 1998 with his group Office Products, Theriault culls for this cd 2 recent days of recording in a studio live to 2 track. No drone music here.....often sounding like anything but a guitar, these recordings stem from live sampling of guitar and computer files that are changed live on the spot into a complete 'cut up' barrage of sound.
There are two tracks from this release on the audio page. You can read more about Doug here: doug theriault

You get the whole range on this compilation, sure to bring this independent label (from Portland, OR) some much needed attention..." -igloo mag (to read the whole review click here)
